About This Boat

The Switch 51 "Lady Amelie" is a rare combination of design by a top-team known for their performance oriented catamarans with ocean cruising comfort.  The Switch 51’s ability to carry a large payload makes it an ideal cruising catamaran. The controls are simplified enough for a couple to make short coastal jumps or ocean crossings with ease.

Standing out on Lady Amelie in particular is her unique and high quality Old Navy style Mahogany interior woodwork that is a must see.  She also features a taller mast and sail plan than the majority of Switch 51’s that were built, making it perfectly suited to provide exceptional performance in light to moderate conditions while her deep daggerboards also allow for upwind performance sailing.

The boat has had three owners since new, with her current owner taking possession in 2013 in Denmark and then cruising her to the Caribbean.  Since 2014, Lady Amelie has cruised the Caribbean, Bahamas and the East Coast of the US.

The current owners have meticulously maintained the boat, and have significantly upgraded and refit her during their ownership.  Upgrades include Rebedding salon windows, new dacron Sails, new standing and running rigging, new Lifeline AGM batteries and all new wiring, new navigation instrumentation, new autopiot system, and so much more.  View her full listing for a full list of refits and upgrades on the boat!

SAILING HISTORY
  • Sud Composites delivered "Lady Amelie" in 2001 as a sailing shell to the Owner's yard at Casablanca where the "Old Navy-Style" interior was installed.
  • Lady Amelie has had three owners and was launched in 2002. She then spent 7 months on the Mediterranean for family-sailing. After a winter on land in 2002/2003 she was sold to her second owner who sailed her to Denmark where she was based for the next 10 years.
  • In 2013 she was sold to the present owner who sailed her to the Caribbean via Caledonian Canal to Ireland, south along the coasts of France, Spain and Portugal to the Canary Islands and completed a transatlantic voyage to Antigua in 2013.  After a short stay in Antigua, she continued cruising south through the Caribbean to Grenada.
  • Since 2014 Lady Amelie has cruised the Caribbean, The Bahamas, and the East coast of the US as far north as Maine.
  • In the Winter of 2015/2016 (November to June) she was on the hard in Rhode Island.  From there she continued cruising to Brunswick GA where she stayed from December 2016 to Febuary 2017.

SPECIAL FEATURES
  • A rare combination of design by a top-team, known for their Race-winning multihulls, and ocean-going comfort.  The Switch 51’s ability to carry a large payload makes it an ideal cruising catamaran.
  • Beautiful cabinetry ~ Frames have carving, some flat surfaces have inlays as well!
  • The controls are simplified enough for a couple to make short coastal jumps or ocean crossings with ease.
  • Deep daggerboards provide exceptional upwind  performance.
  • The Helmsman has the choice to turn off the AutoPilot, relax and enjoy the feel of a powerfully balanced helm with only three fingers on the wheel. Its long water line length and clean lines underwater provide a stable and fast platform for thrilling downwind sailing.
  • Lady Amelie has a taller mast and sail plan than the majority of Switch 51’s making it perfectly suited to provide exceptional performance in light to moderate conditions
  • Lady Amelie has reached a top speed of 24 knots so far
